Sarah Solis creates spaces that are deeply personal, timeless, and transportive. Classically trained in interior design, fine art, and art history, she founded her Malibu studio in 2017 and in 2024 introduced Galerie Solis, a bespoke furniture collection conceived as an evolution of her practice and rooted in European craftsmanship, heirloom design, and a commitment to sustainability. Her studio is currently engaged in residential projects across the United States. Here, she reflects on trusting intuition in the creative process, finding the emotion and soul of a space, and the importance of building the right team.

What do you do when you hit a creative block?

I step away and sink into something tactile and grounding. I'll take a long walk by the ocean, flip through my collection of antique books, or spend time sketching without an agenda. For me, creativity returns when I give myself permission to be quiet, to observe, and to reconnect with beauty in its simplest form. That reset always brings me back to the work with fresh clarity.

What's the last film you watched that moved you deeply?

A timeless favorite I always revisit: the Godfather series, for the incredible set decor. It's transportive and inspiring.

What book have you gifted most?

The Creative Act by Rick Rubin.

What's something you bought under $100 that changed your life?

A simple linen-bound notebook. I carry it everywhere — it's become a place to sketch, jot down passing thoughts, and collect moments of beauty. Something about putting pen to paper slows me down and reconnects me to my intuition.

What's the best investment you've made?

My studio and the people who make it what it is. Surrounding myself with talented, thoughtful collaborators has elevated every project and allowed the work to grow in ways I couldn't have imagined on my own. Investing in the right team has been transformative — both creatively and personally.
