Low-rise cargos, sheer tanks, and Stella at sunset: Barcelonacore is really a longing to never go home.
If your local coffee shop has started to look like a Ryanair gate in 2003, you’re not alone. We’re in the era of Barcelonacore with folks cosplaying European summer as defined by Puma Speedcats, low-rise cargos, and sheer tanks. It’s the “post-tourist” silhouette perfected by Dua Lipa and Caroline Polachek (whose “Sunset” video is the perfect soundtrack), evolving Y2K resort into something sunburnt and hungover.
Miu Miu is a clear reference point, but also think “Erasmus student in a Hilary Duff movie” — the maximalism of Custo Barcelona, the chaotic patchwork of Desigual, Diesel denim, and Miss Sixty. But, it’s not just the clothes — it’s the promise of a carefree, post-border identity, where a Romanian pop song like “Dragostea Din Tei” could become everyone’s summer anthem. Is the world so chaotic that we long for a permanent vacation? Or is winter just taking forever to end? Much to consider while we sip a Stella and watch the sunset from a shoddy plastic chair.
