The Riban has the round, sugar-glazed heft of a hard candy — cream glass, a thick rolled lip, four dark stripes pulled down the belly by hand and widening as it swells. Ferm Living blew it after exactly that: the striped sweets confectioners used to pull while the batch ran hot. The Copenhagen house has been at this since 2006, when Trine Andersen went looking for the right wallpaper, couldn’t find it, and started a company instead.

There’s something knowing in casting a sweet in glass — fixing the most perishable thing there is in the one material built to outlast the room. The stripes read as pure decoration until you clock what they are: a record of the hand that pulled them, faster than thought, before the glass set. Fill it and they disappear behind the stems. Leave it empty and you’ve got a candy the size of a lamp, sugar frozen mid-pull. A sweet treat at only $49.
