Perfume Set

L'Orange Variée by Les Parfums de Marcy is a ceramic orange peel, painted and glazed with startling accuracy, holding eight enameled glass bottles shaped like segments, each one a different perfume. The corks fit into the bottoms of the segments, concealed when placed upside-down. Circa 1925, complete sets are so fragile that collectors spend years cobbling them together from separate auctions. Pairs well with your Cosmos citrus collection.
Fragrances continue to have a moment, but this feels like a break from the pretentious sans-serif scents that promise notes of "petrichor" and "volcanic stone.” This orange just seems to tell you what it is. But that’s a misdirect — despite appearances, it contains scents of rose, violet, mimosa, heliotrope, amber, chypre, jessamine, and mayflower. Familiar trickery over 100 years old.
