It's okay to half ass things. Not because your half-assing things is going to somehow be the best thing anyone has ever seen or even as good as someone who isn't half assing it. It's okay because sometimes that's the only way to do it. Hang your clothing up inside out because your clothes will be hung up. Dust a little bit because you will have dusted. Make a shitty meal because you'll have food. Never feel bad for half assing it.

If hustle culture defines the pace of your artwork, you're stuck in fear.  Slow down, evaluate your goals and what you want out or your creative experience. Not what you're TOLD to want or need to do, but what you actually want.  This sets the pace at which you make art.

You are not “hopelessly behind” everyone else. Every person moves at their own pace and your life path is unique. While expectations of achievement within a certain time period may feel set in stone, there is always a way to keep going.

I had a choice: I could either let the darkness of the world swallow me, or I could do what I could to help make the world a little bit brighter.

Doing things you like is not a waste of time. Watching series, playing video games, listening to podcasts, being creative etc. If it makes you happy, it doesn't matter that you're not productive during that time, what matters is that you are enjoying yourself, generating happiness. Those are the BEST moments. Chilling, relaxing, having fun. Don't let people guilt you into not enjoying the best parts of your day.

If learning art is overwhelming:  - reduce what you're learning (too many topics = overwhelm) - focus on one big topic to improve your current project - try it, take note of mistakes, try it again  Repeat this every 1-2 weeks and revisit topics to stay fresh.

Even if your life sucks right now, you can do things to make it suck less. Learn to make your favorite coffee drink. Wear clothes you really like. Do yoga. Sometimes the small things save us.

The struggle isn’t in the art. It’s in avoiding it.   The anxiety, shame, comparison, and doubt all fade the moment you start drawing.  Pick up the pencil and begin.

Slow down, it's ok. Very few things in life are absolute  Deadlines can be flexible, career paths are flexible, relationships become close and far and close again, it's all going to be ok

if something brings you happiness, it isn’t a waste of time

You have options. I promise you, you have options. Even if you blow up your whole life, change your name and train hop half way across the country- you still have options. So long as you are alive you have choices and chances. If you can’t see them, ask someone else. Ask a stranger or someone who loves you. Anyone not in your situation will have different a perspective. Stay safe and stay alive.

Your art is allowed to be messy.  It’s allowed to be bad.  It’s allowed to be in progress.   But it’s not allowed to stay in your head. Get it out. Make the thing.
