“Pindorama”, meaning “land of the palm trees,” is the name the indigenous Tupi-Guarani people gave to their homeland—centuries before it became known as Brazil. Miranda’s works honor this deep history, drawing from the verses of Adélia Prado, the melodies of Tom Jobim, and the spirit of Brazil’s cultural tapestry. Each painting is an emotional landscape—bold, rhythmic, and alive—where orange becomes the sun’s embrace, light becomes movement, and every brushstroke echoes with the cadence of a distant song.

“A welcome to my garden, where flowers bloom all year long. “Gardens of Sun” and “Tropic” are analogies for what I hope to create wherever I go - an idea of life rooted in happiness. Catherine Lucky Chang’s Playful Wonder is a series of pulp paintings on handmade paper, created during her residency at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. These works are a testament to the harmony between medium and message, seamlessly blending image and surface in a way that is both innovative and deeply tactile.

Each piece begins with pigmented pulp, which Chang pours, spoons, and shapes onto freshly formed sheets of paper. Unlike traditional methods that layer imagery after the paper is made, Playful Wonder integrates color, line, and texture directly into the paper itself. The result is a unified composition where form and material become inseparable, reflecting the Taoist philosophy of balance and interconnection.

Drawing inspiration from the interplay of light and dark, positive and negative space, Chang’s work captures the essence of yin and yang. Caroline Pinney’s latest collection — “Enhance / Disrupt” — comments on the spectrum of social association and how its value directly impresses itself onto our physical environment. A week in Key West pulled Pinney out of her studio and onto an island riddled with lively strangers, an abundance of fresh seafood, and thriving variations of local wildlife and plants. As a physical response to her new environment, her process shifted into a contemplative state as she documented her surroundings in sketches and on film. This process informed new and modified approaches to color, line work, and iconographic visual representations supporting the concept for this series. “Enhance / Disrupt” ultimately speaks to physical awareness with regards to the company we keep — both good and poor.

Burnt Circus

In her new series, The Calm of Darkness, Chanee Vijay explores the intersection of sensory perception and nocturnal ambiance. Set against Northern California's coastal redwoods and meadows, this 10-piece hemp textile collage collection examines how darkness shapes visual and psychological experiences.
"Living in this remote place without light pollution introduced me to a kind of darkness I had never experienced. I challenged myself to stand within the darkness to unveil how the night, rather than inducing fear and uncertainty, could be seen and revered. This intentional exercise, though uncomfortable, eventually removed the barriers of my learned anxieties, just as the shadows brought on by nightfall swallow the colors of the landscape."
By dyeing the hemp fabric in phases—first in vibrant hues and then layering on blacks and browns—Chanee captures the tonal and textural shifts of the landscape as perceived through the absence of light. This method adds depth and complexity to each piece and results in muted, gradient-hued collage works.

“The first and largest painting I created for Pindorama symbolizes roots, a central theme I explore throughout the series. The aesthetics of this work paved the way for all the paintings that followed, shaping the visual language and essence of the series.
Pau-brasil was the first product traded in Brazil after the beginning of Portuguese colonization and it was the main economic activity of colonial Brazil during the early years. Pau Brasil is a tree known for its red pigment, which, when processed, produces a red color. This dye was highly valued, especially in the textile industry. The Portuguese word "brasil" (derived from the Latin "brasa," meaning "ember" or “coal,") refers to the red color of the wood. Over time, the land itself came to be known by the name Brasil, reflecting the prominence of this valuable tree and its red dye.”

To Pinney, it is one of life’s greatest indulgences and it connects us to others, our environment, and to ourselves deeply. Finding a new favorite song, for Pinney, is almost as good a feeling as hearing one that transports her back in time — as it does many of us. It’s a universal sensation similar to smelling food that reminds you of your childhood home, or meeting someone and feeling you’ve known them your whole life. It’s a powerful tool in navigating a decision, a log in your fire when you’re angry, or a desperate hug when you’re enveloped in loneliness. Through her new series of printed works, Pinney conveys the feeling that music makes life make sense. It makes moments more memorable and wakes up old memories. The nostalgia and presence music evokes is powerful and often unsuspecting — the catalyst that can drop you into a moment and slow your nervous system or demand your body to move. For Caroline Pinney, she can associate some of her most memorable experiences with a particular song or album, remembering the stack of 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s CDs her dad gave her as a kid and listening to them on the floor of her room via a daisy-painted Walkman. All of her life, she says, she has looked to music to inform unformed thoughts, quiet chaos, foster deep connections, and to guide her visual voice.

Philip Soucy’s hand-built sculptures are an intimate dialogue between artist and material, each piece formed through the meditative process of coil building. Soucy’s method involves layering thin coils of clay, a practice that mirrors the rhythms of time and the accumulation of experience. “Once the layering of coils begins,” Soucy reflects, “the dance begins.” This tactile choreography reveals an ineffable connection between maker and medium, as touch imprints intention and collaboration into the work.

The resulting sculptures blend elements of landscape and object, recalling natural formations like hillsides, mountain facades, and layers of sediment. Their shapes feel both organic and intentional, reflecting the balance between Soucy’s careful process and the clay’s natural behavior. By working with the material’s tendencies, Soucy creates pieces that feel rooted in time, encouraging viewers to consider the connection between human experience and the natural world.

“"The Party" is inspired by popular and folkloric celebrations where people dress up in costume or in masks, like the celebration “Folia de Reis” or the “Festa Junina.” In this painting, a couple dances under the moonlight in the square of a small town. It’s all about the music, the joy, the feeling of being with people you love in a place you enjoy, on a warm night, while having a blast.”
