I think the thing to keep in mind with sharing process is that there's too much temptation to make the process presentable and not like the messiness it actually can be and can actually fuck up the work if you're not careful. Don't force an artist to play a competitive sport.

Last night, we at @linear hosted a design leadership event. We invited about ~25 design leaders from top companies to join @lil_dill and me to discuss b2b design, quality, and craft.

The experienced designer's unsaid rules for getting work done

15+ years ago the only people who entered the design field were people who were passionate about the craft. It was always about being a good designer/creative first, and money second.

Do **you have any advice for people just entering the field of design?** Lean into what makes you different. Have the confidence to focus on your strengths rather than worry about what you can’t do. I spent way too much time on the latter and not enough on the former. It held me back in countless, avoidable ways.

Oh, and right now you can get ahead of the old guard by embracing AI in a big way. It’s a big, big opportunity to level the playing field. ca

“So, the thing I would say is, when you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world, try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. But that’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is, everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.
“The minute that you understand that you can poke life and actually something will, you know if you push in, something will pop out the other side, that you can change it, you can mold it. That’s maybe the most important thing – is to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it.
“I think that’s very important and however you learn that, once you learn it, you’ll want to change life and make it better, cause it’s kind of messed up, in a lot of ways. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

For many years I’ve been in desperate search of taste. I think people wrongly assume that your taste is a birthright, that it will fall into your lap. I don’t think so. I think you have to run after it.
